Imperial Multimedia, an exhibit design firm based in Wisconsin, has completed an interpretive master plan and exhibits concept plan for the Rockbridge Center at Natural Bridge Park, located between Lexington and Roanoke, Virginia. Natural Bridge will soon become the 37th Virginia state park. The park is currently managed by Virginia Conservation Legacy Fund, VCLF, a statewide non-profit conservation organization, until which time Virginia State Parks assumes management.
The three primary goals of the Park’s interpretive plan include: Conservation, Education and Recreation. The central theme is: “Natural Bridge in its natural and geologic splendor has inspired generations to consider their existence on Earth.” Exhibit sub-themes include geology and natural history, conservation and sustainability, history and local culture, and outdoor recreation. The concept plan outlines more than 20 proposed exhibits for the 6,500-square foot lower level of the Rockbridge Center.
Natural Bridge Park has been included as the 13th park in “Partnership for Parks: Virginia State Park Exhibits for the 21st Century, a 6-year $6 million campaign to raise private funding for state park visitor centers. The initial cost of the proposed exhibits at Natural Bridge approaches $1 million.
