The relationship between Virginia Association for Parks (VAFP) and Imperial Multimedia (IM), a small high tech, multi-media firm that develops websites and exhibits among other products, goes back many years. With significant funding from Dominion Foundation through VAFP and partial funding from Virginia State Parks, IM designed, programmed and installed electronic information kiosks in all of the (then) 35 state parks across Virginia. Furthermore, IM developed and still manages a popular website, VirginiaOutdoors.com, that provides in-depth information about parks and activities throughout the Commonwealth. IM also developed and voluntarily manages VAFP’s website, VirginiaParks.org. Based on the success and popularity of the electronic kiosks and websites, IM was invited to design & develop the exhibits at Lake Anna State Park’s Visitor Center in 2012. Although VAFP and Friends of Lake Anna State Park had limited funding, IM was able to install innovating interactive exhibits at the Visitor Center that have been very popular with park visitors.
VAFP entered into an agreement with IM in 2013 to partner on this multi-year state parks exhibits initiative. IM has already developed exhibit concept plans for four of the thirteen targeted state parks to date (Mason Neck, False Cape, Belle Isle, Breaks Interstate) as well as for Natural Bridge Park, a future Virginia state park. Fund-raising and promotional materials have been provided by IM to VAFP in order for VAFP to seek funding to further design, develop and install the exhibits at these state parks.
